Beyond Satire

Thanks to Martin B for bringing this splendid story to my attention. Even the immortal Beachcomber would have found it hard to surpass this tale.

  1. Aside from the more humorous side to this story, there may be a darker side. Is it possible that this person is a "walt" The Army rumour service has a whole section dedicated to them.

  2. "On his LinkedIn profile, the lawyer gives his name as Alan Blacker and his full title as Dr. The Rt. Hon. The Lord Harley of Counsel KStJ. DPhil."
"He also has a website dedicated to his genealogy which claims his family have been Earls of Dublin since 1660 and Hereditary Lord Defenders of Dublin since King Sithric the Third."
    Um.

  3. The 'Rt.Hon" bit is obviously untrue, as membership of the Privy Council is not just handed out, but recorded in official papers such as the London Gazette.

As for "Lord Harley of Counsel" I can only assume that Counsel is a tiny village in an obscure county. Or perhaps not.

  4. Or there is always 'Lord Harley of Davidson'.

    1. You shouldn't mock the name of Lord Harley.
"I am shocked to the core that my position has been questioned - which is I feel reflective of the sacrifice of thousands of men who have died for the freedoms that are referred to in the title of Lord Harley for almost 1,100 years."

  6. ... and the judge wasn't dressed like someone out of a Harry Potter movie?

  7. He left out of his profile the London street named in his honor. So that would make him a medico as well, methinks. Talented fellow.

  8. Did his dress effect his judgement.... If the answer is no it's just 'you cant come in here dressed like that' could be a pub or club, anywhere in fact. I'm sure he is quite capable of fore filling his role

  9. To be fair to this dick he does seem to be away with the fairies and maybe should not be appearing in court. Wonder if he has a practicing certificate?

  10. I imagine his client was delighted to see his barrister getting a bollocking.

  12. From yesterday's Daily Mail
"But it emerged today that Blacker is not a member of the Order of St John and the ambulance charity has reported him to police."

  13. Unless I'm being particularly stupid or his name's been misreported, he doesn't seem to feature in the Bar Directory or in the Law Society listings - there's no-one with the surname Blacker who looks a likely candidate.

Posts are pre-moderated. Please bear with us if this takes a little time, but the number of bores and obsessives was getting out of hand, as were the fake comments advertising rubbish.
