Thanks For That

I read that the UK's terror threat level has been raised from "substantial" to "severe".

That's interesting, and I do not doubt it is true, but what, exactly, are we supposed to do with the information?

I am to sit in court tomorrow morning.I shall just have to take my chances, I suppose.

  1. You should continue running in panicked circles at the same speed as for "substantial threat" but now you may also commence flapping your hands up and down. Whimpering is not advised at this time, although a preparatory lip tremble may help should the level be raised further to "blancmange".

And (as with all terror levels) it is most important to continue expressing your unconditional support for whatever overreaching "security" legislation the govt rams through next in a phony panic.

  3. Why should you need to do anything? The information isn't intended for you to act upon, unless you're responsible for securing the national infrastructure, or are a police officer. No doubt if it were not publicly available, as was the case pre-2006, there would be complaints that the authorities are hiding something.

  4. What a surprise. The threat level is raised and the politicians are immediately discussing further, draconian 'anti-terror' laws. Who would have thought it?

  5. I think it just means that the A4 piece of paper at the staff entrance of the courtroom has to be changed to read " Security Status is severe". Jobber19

  6. Well, this is serious. It would appear that there's no getting out of taking action this time, so grave steps must be taken.

Let us change the bulb in the warning lamp forthwith!

  8. Threat level substantial: The security services are aware that terrorists would like to blow something up.

Threat level severe: The security services are aware that terrorists would like to blow something up and they've heard some mutterings that a terrorist cell is up to something but they have no idea who, where or when.

Threat level imminent: The security services are aware that terrorists would like to blow something up and they've heard some more mutterings that a terrorist cell is up to something but they still have no idea who, where or when.

Bang: The security services are aware that terrorists would like to blow something up and they now know where and when.
