Top Tip (part of an occasional series)

We try on this blog to point out some Bad Ideas that will not improve your life. Here is another:-

If you are disqualified from driving on a Tuesday, DO NOT drive again on Wednesday. But if you do, DO NOT drive past two police officers sitting in a marked car. But if you do, DO NOT have your phone in your hand as you yak away to someone. But if you do, and you are stopped, DO NOT be surprised when the computer fingers you as a disqualified driver, and therefore uninsured. When you are in custody at the police station, DO NOT express surprise when the officer points out that you have two previous convictions for Drive Disqualified. Most people remember that kind of thing, you see.
DO NOT be surprised when the nasty magistrates decide that you are a piss-taker and send you to prison to think about things for a bit.

  1. Gosh. I'm surprised that our new improved sentencing guidelines don't suggest a community penalty, even for a 3rd DWD.

  2. The starting point is 12 weeks for a recently imposed ban.

  3. How long is recently imposed.

  4. That's for the bench to decide case by case. Most people would say that one day is recent.

  5. There was a case a year or two ago when a JP saw a driver whom he had just disqualified, last case of the day, drive off from the court . . . where he had been parked in the area reserved for the Justices where they would go to get to their own cars.

If you gave him a brain transplant it would reject him.

  6. That is unusually harshly said bystander.

  7. Granted, but what would you say?

  8. So the officers did not recognise this villain as a DQ driver - they stopped him because he was using a handheld mobile and the process did the rest.

I am always amazed at the number of people who take so little effort to get away with their illegal activity; like transporting drugs in an uninsured vehicle, or a vehicle that is a police magnet for some other reason.

Maybe stupid people think everyone is stupid and are genuinely amazed when it turns out they are not.

  9. Or as I often say after reading through the same sorry list before going into a remand court for the day "If they were clever they wouldn't be our customers".

  10. A friend who's a police officer tells me something similar: criminals are generally stupid, or lazy, or both. If they were smart, diligent types they would have proper jobs.

Of course I then find myself wondering if that's really true generally, or just true of the ones he catches!

  11. Bah, you've never heard of banksters? How many top banking execs have been JAILED? How about the law early 2000/2001 that effectively BANNED jailing banksters? What, you don't know about that? Ignorance of the law and all that. No, it's the shareholders which get fined, having done nothing wrong, except for buying the wrong shares, the mugs. So, what were you saying about criminals NOT being 'smart, diligent types'?

Posts are pre-moderated. Please bear with us if this takes a little time, but the number of bores and obsessives was getting out of hand, as were the fake comments advertising rubbish.
