now be referred to as Jay JI have met Judge Judge , and my local surgery has a Doctor Doctor.

I worked with a Cpl Sergeant in the military, whom I'm sure has since been promoted...
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I had a Lance Corporal Sergeant in my troop in the early 70s and always wondered if he would make Sergeant Sergeant.

How lucky you all are. My carpenter's called the italian equivalent of Baker; my baker ,of Priest; my priest, of Smith; my locksmith, of Shoemaker; may shoemaker, of Shepherd , and so forth and so on. What beat it all was a judge that used to be rather well known. Her surname was Milan dialect for "poultry-thief"

We had a web manager called Mr Weaver.

There's a (retired) Major Major in my local.
ReplyDeleteRather late but the Politics department at the University of Hull has a lecturer Dr Doctor. This is universally regarded as awesome, although it sometimes scares freshers who don't realise you can use lecturers first names.
