We are sorry to go back to talking about the blog, but today we are the subject of a Leader in the Guardian.
Stuff like this could quite turn a fellow's head, but we shall try to remain our usual humble selves.
Now where was I?
Musings and Snippets from a recently retired JP. I served for 31 years, mostly in west London. I was Chairman of my Bench for some years, and a member of the National Bench Chairmen's Forum All cases are based on real ones, but anonymised and composited. All opinions are those of one or more individuals. JPs swear to enforce the law of the land, whether or not they approve of it. Nothing on here constitutes legal advice.
Indeed, but what a pity that some of the ignorant comments underneath are somewhat less edifying. Oh well, that's the Grauniad for you...

DeleteI would expect better from you SouthLondonJP. Do you actually believe that most of the comments on the Guardian website are from those sympathetic to the Guardian's views? Most are from the usual trolls and those with right wing sympathies. Personally I hardly ever read comments, this blog, of course, being an exception.
ReplyDeleteBS and team, well done. Perhaps there will be a change of heart to blogging by magistrates and judges but don't count on it. At least this editorial brings the matter to public attention.
Well, to read some of the hateful comments on the Comment is Free section of the Grauniad, probably from left and right, maybe it's not so surprising!! Totally agree though that BS and his team must keep up the great work
DeleteThat's a fair point ANJP. I just realised that I often comment on Daily Mail stories, and never on Guardian stories, despite my reading preference being the reverse. It goes to show that you should never trust a consensus of self-selecting commentators as representing a broad view.
DeleteAs the SPJ is learning to his cost, if you try hard enough to close down comment, you only succeed in helping it to flourish. Let's hope other publications pick up on the Guardian's leader and add their voices to the discussion.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, any sign yet of interest from the MA, who after all are supposed to labour diligently on behalf of the wider interests of the magistracy?
No, afraid not.
DeleteYou can still buy the MA rose though, if you want one.
Well I hope this continues apace. The dictat from above is another complete over reaction to a non- problem.
ReplyDeleteThe humour, candour and breadth of the posts here are food for thought. It's about time the thought police went back to the station.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and commiserations!
You are now a sacred cow, to be slaughtered in the event a comment made on an article is quoted or even misquoted, elsewhere in the gutter press.
Mean and petty minds, they know who they are, will be parsing and analyzing in order the better to make a public example of their betters, who think they run the place. Jobsworths are even now being delegated to the task!
You have helped to create an additional job!
